UK Student Visa from Algeria: Official Steps and Documents

You can apply if you are at least 16, have a place on an eligible course with a licensed student sponsor, and meet the financial and English requirements. A 16- or 17-year-old at an independent school may instead need a Child Student visa. An English language course lasting more than 6 and no more than 11 months may qualify for a Short-term study visa with different rules. Student visa overview; short-term English study.

Apply to your chosen university or provider according to its instructions. A Student visa requires an unconditional offer from a licensed sponsor. The provider then issues a CAS reference number, which you must enter in the visa form. Apply within 6 months of receiving the CAS. An admission letter alone does not replace it. Register of licensed sponsors; eligible courses and CAS.

The required level is generally equivalent to CEFR B2 for degree-level study or above and B1 below degree level. Accepted evidence can include an approved Secure English Language Test (SELT), qualifying educational credentials, or an assessment by an eligible higher education provider for degree-level study. A degree awarded outside the UK and taught in English may require an Ecctis assessment if used to prove English. Official English-language rules.

Is IELTS mandatory? No. If a SELT is required, book an immigration-approved version such as IELTS for UKVI or another test on the official list. A test accepted by a university for admission is not automatically an approved standalone SELT for the visa. Check how your institution confirms your English level. Approved SELT tests.

The financial requirement includes the tuition fees due for the first academic year (up to 9 months), as stated on the CAS, plus living costs of £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, up to 9 months. For 9 months, living costs amount to £13,761 in London or £10,539 elsewhere, in addition to the tuition fees that must be evidenced. Always check the current figures when applying.

If you rely on bank funds, the required amount must be held for 28 consecutive days, with the end of that period falling within 31 days before the application date. Depending on the rules, you may use your own funds, a parent's funds, an eligible student loan or official financial sponsorship. For parental funds, prepare their consent letter and evidence of your relationship. Bank evidence must meet the published requirements and may be verified. Algerian nationality is not on the list normally exempt from providing financial evidence upfront. Financial evidence guidance.

A TB test is required when all three conditions apply: you will come to the UK for at least 6 months; you have lived in Algeria or another listed country for at least 6 months; and you lived in a listed country during the previous 6 months. Use a Home Office-approved clinic. A negative certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of the chest X-ray and must be included with the visa application. Check the TB rules; approved clinics in Algeria. Tell the clinic you need the test for a UK visa.
